Hey, I've been tagged!
It could be seen as a grand indictment of our modern-day craving for recognition in the social media universe. More likely it's just the tale of one more dumbass crook.
The above interaction between the twit and the Tauhara Paetiki Neighborhood policing team in Taupo went slightly viral in New Zealand last week - in a confined office-flu type of way. Michael Shane Hagger, so delighted to have gained any sort of love from anybody, even the police, began taunting them on their Facebook page. He gained a bit of Twitter love, the fame equivalent of a pleasant aroma wafting by on a breeze, but was then picked up on the Huffington Post and Mashable.com, taking him global. It is all a very depressing tale about the state of our lives. Really it is.
The man, whose name could be spelled out Michael S.Hagger which might explain his lame actions, was wanted for failure to appear on shoplifting charges.
This week S.Hagger announced - via social media, of course - that he would voluntarily turn himself in. This he apparently did. He somehow seemed to think that he was the only person using social media. After drawing attention to himself, there were plenty of people willing to help the police with their search for him.
Hoo rah to that.
