7.0 quake in Welly - but safe

Well if Amy was having any sort of doubts about leaving Wellington tonight, about cured her of it. A 7.0 rattler just tore through the North Island. Centered about 160 km off the coast of Taranaki to the north and west of us, it was felt as far south as Christchurch. There have been no reports of damage.

The house went through a good shake. It's amazing how structures can move that much withouth breaking, but we're all grateful they can. This was a rolling shake and we Christchurch survivors were waiting for a gathering strength that, luckily, never came.

We're very grateful everyone is OK and Wellington is still standing. Still, it's a hell of a way for New Zealand to say goodbye to us.
