Assimilation or Disassociation?

Sometimes I feel as if the boys are really getting the hang of New Zealand. At Ewan's delayed birthday party today, his buddies all wanted to play cricket. We listened to them playing in the garden. It was wonderful - and not a little nostalgic - to hear Ewan shout, "I'll be wickie" and to hear the cries of, "How's that?"

At other times I observe both of my sons and they totally don't seem to be getting it. Here they are at the same cricket game. Somehow they suddenly look American again!

A baseball bat and a guitar? Really? This is not how you play cricket, oh sons of mine. Oh well, at least they're trying.

When Morgan was told he was to be the wicket keeper, he shuffled up and said, "This is a wicket. I shall keep it that way."
